EV Infrastructure Planning Assistant

Welcome to the EV Infrastrusture Planning Assistant, This tool has been developed to assist infrastructure planners with verification of their infrastructure plan to see how well it accomplishes the goals of enabling electric vehicle mobility within a region, as well as connecting to other regions.

There are several components available in this tool.

A common color theme has been developed to express a consistant message
GREEN lines are used in gap analysis, and express the ideal location for a charging station to be located to fill a gap.
BLUE lines indicate that the vehicle is able to travel that road at posted speed limits without any issues.
YELLOW lines indicate that the vehicle is able to travel that road at posted speed limits but may arrive with a Low battery
RED lines indicate that the vehicle is able to travel that road at posted speed limits but may arrive with a Very Low battery
BLACK lines indicate that the vehicle is able to travel that road at posted speed limits in 1 direction only (probably downhill)

we have several icons that appear on the map
Active CHAdeMo DC Charging station Disabled CHAdeMo DC Charging station Selected CHAdeMo DC Charging station
Active SAE Combo DC Charging station Disabled SAE Combo DC Charging station Selected SAE Combo DC Charging station
Active Level 2 AC Charging station Disabled Level 2 AC Charging station Selected Level 2 AC Charging station
Active High Amp Level 2 AC Charging station Disabled High Amp Level 2 AC Charging station Selected High Amp Level 2 AC Charging station
Active Tesla SuperchargerCharging station Disabled Tesla SuperchargerCharging station Selected Tesla SuperchargerCharging station
Station is Closed outside of business hours

Functions

Connected Stations

Connected stations draws lines between charging stations in different colors to identify how easily the selected vehicle is able to travel between them.
Tap on a charging station will toggle the connecting routes between entire map and selected station only when you are in Connected Stations mode.
Tap on a road will give you the details about which chargers were connected

Slow Rolling

Slow Rolling draws lines between charging stations in different colors to identify how easily the selected vehicle is able to travel between them if the driver charges the vehicle to 100% SOC. (this is not recommended as it takes significantly more time and will limit the number of people who can use the charging station in a day).
Tap on a charging station will toggle the connecting routes between entire map and selected station only when you are in Connected Stations mode.
Tap on a road will give you the details about which chargers were connected

The term "Slow Rolling" refers to people hogging a DC charging station, charging to 100% which takes 100% longer than just charging to 80%, thus slowing everybody else down. Drivers get very upset with this practice.

Gap Analysis

Gap Analysis will draw lines on roads where an additional charger would make a road more useable.
Tap on a charging station will toggle the station from Enabled to Disabled when you are in Enable/Disable mode.

Spider Map

Spider map draws lines on roads leading away from a charging station in all directions, the color of the line will change to yellow where the program expects the car to get a low battery warning, and then change to red where the program thinks the car will receive the very low battery warning. The line will end because the road ends or the path chosen to drive further used a different route, which is beyond control of the application.
Tap on a charging station will select that charging station as the target to draw the spider map for.

Reverse Spider Map

Reverse Spider map draws lines on roads leading towards a charging station from all directions, the color of the line will change to yellow where the program expects the car would have a low battery warning by the time it reached the charging station, and then change to red where the program thinks the car would have a very low battery warning by the time it reached the charging station.
Tap on a charging station will select that charging station as the target to draw the reverse spider map for.

Round Trip Spider Map

Round Trip Spider map draws lines on roads leading away from a charging station in all directions. The difference between this and the normal spider map is this version requires the car to be able to travel back to the charging station without requiring to be charged along the route. The yellow segment shows how far the selected vehicle could drive and return with a low battery warning. The red segment shows how far the selected vehicle could drive and return with a very low battery warning.
Tap on a charging station will select that charging station as the target to draw the round trip spider map for.

Enable/Disable

This function allows you to temporarily mark charging stations as disabled so you can see how it affects the map
Tap on a charging station will toggle the charger from enabled to disabled. The charging station will change to a gray color to indicate that it is disabled, and in some views it will be hidden.

Drive Times

This function allows you to do driving simulations and details about driving between charging stations.
Tap on a charging station will generate a report in a new window for locations that are reachable from that charging station.

Radius From Stations

This function will show circles on the map with a pre-defined radius for the selected vehicle, this is how most people decide where to put chargers, it is only included to see how poorly this practice is for building a good EV network. Tap on a charging station will erase all the circles on the map, and draw a single circle around the selected charger.

Charge Time

This function allows you to do a charging simulation for a specific charger, all the vehicles in the database that are compatible with the charger will be shown.
Tap on a charging station will generate the charging report for that specific charger in a new window.

Navigation tips

hold the CTRL key down on the select boxes that support multiple selected optons to toggle each value.
